Etowah Commission awards bids for utility crossing at megasite

The Etowah County Commission on Dec. 17 awarded two bid for major project, one of which obligates the county’s remaining American Rescue Plan funds and will bring water to the Northeast Alabama Regional Megasite.

Commissioners accepted a $1,352,520 bid from REV Construction of Tuscaloosa to install and encase 12-inch sewer and 16-inch water lines running underneath Interstate 59 to the roughly 1,250-acre megasite.

REV Construction was the low bidder for the utility crossing and Goodwyn Mills Cawood, the county’s consultant on the project, recommended that its offer be accepted.

The work must be substantially complete within 180 calendar days and complete within 210 days, according to the contract. Once it’s finished, the county will be able to connect the water line to the new 500,000-gallon elevated water storage tank at the megasite, establishing water service.

Rainbow City is providing water and sewer service to the megasite.
